Al Ahly managed to achieve a 2-1 victory over Aswan on Friday night at Al Ahly WE Al Salam Stadium in the final fixture of the Egyptian Premier League.
The Red Eagles pulled a brilliant comeback, as we came from 1-0 down to win the game 2-1 with two goals from Mohamed Sherif and Salah Mohsen.
First Half
The game started with frontline pressure from the Red Eagles, as we were seeking to break the deadlock early in the game.
Our first moment came when Marwan Mohsen fired a shot, but Aswan’s goalkeeper was there to keep it away.
We were awarded a penalty due to a late challenge against Mohamed Sherif. However, the referee disallowed the penalty after checking the VAR and gave us a free kick at the edge of the box.
The Red Eagles kept trying to break the deadlock, but Aswan’s defenders stood their ground and managed to keep their net clean during the first half.
Second Half
Pitso Mosimane started the second half with a substitution, as Mohamed Hany joined the game instead of Yasser Ibrahim.
Against the game flow, Aswan scored a goal in the 51st minute to take the lead in the game. We kept pushing forward to equalize the score, but Aswan’s defense was solid and managed to block our attempts.
In the 66th minute, the ball hit Aswan defender's hand inside the box. The referee checked the VAR and awarded us a penalty.
Sherif netted the equalizer from the spot to make the result 1-1. Four minutes later, Mosimane used his bench again as Walter Bwalya joined the game instead of Marwan Mohsen.
In the last minutes of the game, Karim Nedved, our midfielder, participated in the game after more than two years of absence due to a knee injury.
After missing several chances, we managed to secure the three points, thanks to Salah Mohsen’s effort. In the dying minutes of the game, Mohsen converted the ball into the bottom corner to gift us a 2-1 victory in the last game of the season.
